Toronto Islamic Centre (TIC) was founded in 2010 to meet the growing need for an Islamic community space in downtown Toronto.
Starting from a small rented unit, TIC quickly became a hub for worship, education, and new Muslims discovering Islam.
As the community expanded, the need for a larger and permanent home became clear.
In 2019, TIC moved to a much bigger building at 817 Yonge Street in the heart of the city.
Today, TIC continues working toward making this location a lasting home for Islam in Canada’s largest city.

This is a brief overview of the major milestones of TIC, highlighting key
events from its inception to the anticipated completion of the last deposit.
Apr 2019
In April, TIC moved to a new
location at Yonge and Bloor
after being notified of lease
non-renewal.
Feb 2010
The establishment of TIC at
the former location, Yonge
and Wellesley.
Apr 2023
The new location is negotiated from $10 million to $8.9 m, and a $500,000 first deposit is paid.
Oct 2023
A $2 million second deposit is made on September 22nd, bringing the total deposit to $2.5 m.
Dec 2023
A $500,000 third deposit is made on December 29th, bringing the total deposit to $3 million.
Apr 2024
A $600,000 fourth deposit was made on April 30th, in addition to monthly payments totaling 90,000, bringing the total deposit to $3.69 m.
Sep 2024
A fifth deposit of $600,000 was made on September 30th, in addition to monthly payments totaling 40,000, bringing the total deposit to $4.2 million.
Mar 2025
A sixth deposit of $1 million on March 31st brings the total deposit to $5.33 m.
May 2025
A seventh and final deposit of $3.57 million on May 1st completes TIC’s property ownership at $8.9 million.
